SASA: Wheel building and frame brazing
Posted Sept. 10, 2006, 2:36 a.m.

So, Daniel has been working for John at the Main Street Bike Shop in Burdett, NY. As such, we’ve had access to QBP's wholesale catalog. Last week we put together an order for most of what we’ll need, bicycle-wise, for the trip.

All the goods came in Friday; super excited about wheel building, we spent Friday afternoon and all day (and night) Saturday at John’s doing just that.

The brazing fiasco

On Wednesday we went in to John’s hoping to braze some down tube shifter bosses, water bottle eyelets, and rack mounts onto our frames. After several tries, however, we still couldn’t get the torch hot enough to melt the brazing rod.

Daniel’s friend Jack also has brazing equipment, so that night we ran over to his house to try our luck again. We succeeded only in discovering a nearly empty acetylene tank—still nothing attached to the frames!
