Now a bit desperate after yesterday’s two failed attempts, we made a number of calls to various local welders in hopes of finding someone to do the job. Brazing, we discovered, is a less than popular enterprise. Soon enough, however, Daniel got ahold of his friend Durand, the president of the local Rotary Club and owner of Durand’s Forge. He happily lent us his oxy-acetylene setup for the afternoon to fix up our frames as desired and was generally super-helpful, since neither Daniel nor I have much if any experience brazing.
At the end of the day, however, after nearly finishing the brazing (we had 4 things left to mount), we ran out of oxygen! Durand had left and would not be back till Monday, so we were, as he had said before he left—should we run out of fuel—“shit out of luck.”
Now more desperate than ever, we headed back to John’s to pick up a few things. Since Jack’s torch was only lacking acetylene, we borrowed John’s tank and headed to Jack’s one more time.
