Cycling with Kody and Mark : Kody's Arrival in Costa Rica
Posted Jan. 10, 2009, 3:36 p.m.

I arrived without problems, despite the 6.2 earthquake that hit San Jose near the Volcano Poas just before I left Phoenix for San Jose. There have been more than 20 deaths with many that haven’t been found yet. The experts are actually concerned that the volcano could erupt now.

Marcos’ friend David picked me up at the airport and I am staying with his family in Guadalupe, a suburb of San Jose. Yesterday I went to a birthday party in a park where a man played an accordion and sang Costa Rican songs all afternoon. Of course I forgot my camera to capture the moments.

I took my first ride today with David and his friends. It is amazing how many people ride bikes here. As we were riding up the road, more cyclists would just join up with us a ride.

We got away from the city a little bit and rode in an area called Coronado and San Pedro. It was the most beautiful ride I have ever been on, and they have informed me that it wasn’t even a very good ride! It was a winding, and sometimes dirt road up the mountain into the country where all the farms and open spaces are. I will upload my photos asap of the ride.
