I woke early today to take a ride with David before church. We went to the same area we did yesterday, but the opposite direction, which is a long, slow ride straight up the mountain. On the way down, I wasn’t paying attention and took my first good spill sliding on my hands and knee. The edge of the road drops off a couple feet to a ditch, and my tire caught the edge of the road and sent me flying. Lesson learned…Don’t be an Idiot! Unfortunately there are no photos because I was too angry to snap photos of my skinned up leg. Maybe later
I got a special treat of yerba mate, a traditional tea of South America, and pan con manzana, the bread with apple stuffing that is traditionally eaten with it here in Costa Rica. It was fantastic!

i finally got to try mate! i agree: it’s de-lish. while i was at the monastery in taize, france last week, i had wonderful argentinian roommates who had all of the goods for mate with them. we drank it while waiting at a train station, and one of the employees there asked us, [insert french accent] “what are smoking in there?” : ) we offered him some, but when he realized it was tea, he wasn’t interested. pretty funny encounter.
