Cycling with Kody and Mark : Jaco
Posted Feb. 5, 2009, 12:24 p.m.

2/4-5

We weren’t sure what the roads would be like, so Mark and I woke early to ride down the coast to Jaco. Amazingly, the paved roads were pretty decent compared to what we have seen in the last week. We even stopped for a short while to look at the crocodiles that live in one of the rivers that we went over. We rode the 46 miles and pulled into town at 1:30pm for some Subway sandwiches. We are going to stay here and rest for an extra day to do some laundry and make some phone calls. We are staying in a hostel with an outwardly racist Texan hostel owner who likes to rant about all the problems he has, so we are trying to avoid too much interaction with him.

good call to probably avoid that hostel owner… why is someone like that even living in another country, i wonder?

it looks like you’ve been there a month at this point, but i’m sure it’s all going by so fast — except when you’re on those killer, uphill, dirt-road, rides… then time must creep awfully slowly. your spanish must be mucho mejor now. that’s my hope for living here for the next six months with my german. it’s takes some work though.

i enjoy reading your posts and seeing the photos to accompany them.
peace be the journey…

hey guys

It is so fun reading your blog and knowing exactly where you are – did the locals tell you that there are no stray cats or dogs in Tarcoles because they throw them all to the crocs? Also, I bought my surf board in Jaco because I got a great deal from a guy who had been living there for a year just to surf – I bet you guys could find a place for a board on one of your bikes if you really wanted to. Cuidense!
