Cycling with Kody and Mark : Playa Venado
Posted Feb. 20, 2009, 2:39 p.m.

We met some American travelers last night and then met three American guys that actually live and work down here in Las Tablas. They wanted to take us to a beach about an hour’s drive south (yes, we took a car for this stretch) since we still had one day before Carnaval started. The beach was incredible. Almost completely secluded, the only service for 20 miles was the little snack shop and bar right on the beach with hammocks for seats. This place wasn’t necessarily a secret, as half the people there seemed to be Caucasian beach bums that at one time or another came to visit and then never left.

The waves here were bigger than any we had seen so far on this trip. There were a few local Panamanian pro surfers shredding the gnar-gnar and were incredible to watch. Steve, the American guy, brought some fins so that we could actually catch these huge waves body surfing…what a great idea! We were catching waves far too big for body surfing with these fins. Absolutely an awesome day on the beach!
