We cheated for the first time on this trip today. We were told by many people, including the police, that leaving Las Tablas by bike was a bad idea for many reasons. There is really only one road out of Las Tablas to the rest of the country. It is a narrow two lane road and every car would be driving it. Not to mention the fact that most all of the drivers would be driving hung over or still drunk, and very sleep deprived. We decided that since we had already ridden this road on the way in, it was okay to cheat and take a taxi to where this road met the Panamerican highway where we had turned off.
I think it was a good choice. There was heavy traffic for 50 miles out to the Panamerican and no place to ride a bike. The taxi dropped us off and we rode a short ride to Aguadulce to stay for the night.
