Cycling with Kody and Mark : Colombia
Posted April 4, 2009, 12:33 p.m.

I have not blogged for awhile due to a change in our bike trip plans. Because we lost nearly three weeks of time waiting for the boat and then taking the boat to Colombia, Mark and I have decided that it will be best to pack our bikes and send them to Bogota to wait for us while we take buses to other cities. This is the only way I see that it will be possible to actually see a lot of Colombia. Therefore, our bike travels have come to a sad close here in Cartegena. I don’t find it deserving to blog if we are not riding our bikes, so this might be one of the last blogs I put up on the site.

From Cartagena, Mark and I traveled into the mountain city of Medellin, the hometown of Pablo Escobar. We spent a few days there before heading to Manizales, built up on the ridge of the mountains. We are now heading to the coffee capital of Colombia, a tiny little farm town of Chinchina where we will celebrate their 152nd birthday as a city with them. From there we plan to go south to a city called Cali before heading back north to Bogota where we will spend some time before flying home.

If you are still reading this blog…I commend you for your adversity. You can check periodically for another blog and for new photos on the Flickr account pretty soon. We will be returning to the States on April 15 and I will put up the last of our blogs and photos.

The people want more! They will revolt! We have not followed you for months just to be cut off at the last second. Bikes or no bikes, post your travels! This is an outrage, my vicarious dreams are being stifled. What are the bicycle diaries with no ending? How about this, ride your bike to my house when you get in? I will have ice cream and peanut butter waiting for your mixing, you can share the real story, the ups and the downs, with me until the sun comes up.

say it aint so!!!

Please post more pics and stories of your Colombia travels – even if its not until you get back to the states. I am hoping that you will both be in CO in July so that we can hear you tell your stories – I know there are so many that haven’t made it to the blog yet and hearing you tell them in person would be a real treat. Be safe and enjoy Semana Santa!!!
